Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What grade do I sign up for?

A: Sign up for the grade your child WILL Participate in during the full season.

Q: Can both of my children play on the same team?

A: Teams are determined by a selection process by coaches. Players will play in their own grade. Siblings grades 1-3 may be allowed to be on the same team depending on registration numbers.

Q: Can my cheerleader cheer up or down a grade?

A: Cheerleaders will participate in their grade unless registration numbers are low and grades need to be combined.

Q: When does the season begin?

A: While specific dates will vary from year to year MMYFC and the UYFC (Utah Youth Football Conference) try to mirror the Utah High School football season as much as possible. Team Selections (if applicable) will generally begin the weekday after July 24th. Optional conditioning can begin June 1 but all players must be invited to participate in each grade. Padded practices can begin after tryouts, often the last week of July or the first week of August. The first games usually start the second week of August and align with the first week of school.

Q: Is there a discount if I have multiple children to register for MMYFC?

A: Yes, a $35 discount is applied after the first registration. This applies for both Football and Cheer.

Q: When are practices?

A:  Football: Optional conditioning clinics may be held prior to the season. After July 24 each coaching staff determines the specifics for their practices based on UYFC guidelines. This tends to be 3-4 days a week, 2 hours each practice, typically in the evening on weekdays, however, some teams may practice Saturdays. No practices will be held on Sundays.

A: Cheer: Coaches will determine when practices are held. They are not held to the same restrictions as football but generally have 2-3 practices a week for 2 hours each practice. No practices will be held on Sundays.

Q: When are Games?

A: Games will mostly be played on Saturdays but 8th Grade A and all 4th Grade teams may play Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday nights.  This can change each year depending on UYFC field and ref availability. Please be mindful when planning vacations. Games will not be changed, if a player misses practice he may lose playing time in a game. Each team will play 7 regular season games and depending on records they could have playoffs or a consolation game.

Q: Will games be played over the Labor Day weekend?

A: Yes, games are scheduled and played on Saturday before Labor Day.

Q: Are games played over the UEA weekend [aka Fall Break] ?

A: No. Typically games are not scheduled or played over UEA weekend [aka Fall Break], weekday games on Tuesday and Wednesday may still be scheduled.

Q: I would like to register my child but I do not have the money. Can I register them now and pay later?

A: Make a request to board@mmyfootball.com for payment arrangements.

Q: How much of the registration fee do I get refunded at the end of the season?

A: None. Fees cover a variety of needs and there is no refund at the end of the year.

Q: I want my child to play for the same coach as last year. Is there anything I can do to ensure this happens?

A: Teams are selected by the coaches at team selection. These decisions are made at the coaches discretion based off team make up, experience, dynamics, and abilities.

Q: I want my child to play for a different coach this year. What do I do to ensure that happens?

A: Teams are selected by the coaches at team selection. If you do not want them to play for a specific coach then approaching that coach and letting them know at team selection would be appropriate.

Q: How are teams selected?

A: Grades 1-3 selections are based as close to school boundaries as possible. However, the coaches are given some leeway. Grades 4-8 selection is made specifically through coach evaluation of his team needs and player skills through a tryout and coaches knowledge of each participant. 9th grade is one team and no tryout or selection process is needed.
